Snow Business Like Snow Busyness

Lots and lots of lovely white flakes. One sick daughter offers to help shovel, one well daughter does help, one well daughter is always cold. sigh. i NEED the exercise, and it is rather fun and good for the heart. Hard on the back and the body parts i fall on, however.

lil' heros

so many of my students suffer from the poverty in their lives, but they possess an amazing amount of resiliency. One little boy drew and wrote about the family's recent trip to another state for Thanksgiving. Dad, mom, nursing baby sister, little sister, and my little 8 yr. old friend took a taxi "out of the city" (probably to a nearby truckstop). There they caught another "taxie" (depicted with 18 wheels) to the river bordering the two states, where they camped in the tent and sleeping bags they's brought along. They apparently got up at 1 a.m. and walked three miles (mom was frowning because it was not easy to walk and feed the baby) where they caught another "taxie" and went on to the grandparents. I'm glad I read Steinbeck.

Jerusalem!

An amazing city, amazing people, amazing country. I love the ancient stones, the slick rock streets, street vendors, musicians, and the food....lovely food: Bright vegetables, chewy bread, sweet cookies, tangy fruit, and savory meats.
